Eco-friendly furniture

Sustainable furniture = responsible production. Responsible production to us means making being aware of the environmental impact of our furntiure. It should be made of 100% solid wood, FSC or PEFC certified or recycled wood and built to last a lifetime. 'Eco friendly', 'green', 'sustainable' - these have become buzz words these days but it's hard to know what's what. When we launched our environmental rating guide in 2006 they were virtually unheard of. We're proud of the awards we've won and responsible production continues to be the cornerstone of our business. We visit our suppliers, we insist on only certified (FSC or PEFC) or recycled timbers for any new products and we work with our current manufacturers to certify their goods. But it's not just timber sourcing, it's also about who makes our furniture and how it's made. We don't believe in creating imminently obsolete furniture for the sake of trends. Our pieces are made to last, both structurally and aesthetically.

  • Fair trade and Organic  Our organic cotton bedding is certified by the Dutch SKAL organisation. We have baskets and ceramics with the SAI  SA8000 certification which is an auditable certification standard.

  • FSC certification  Our bedroom ranges in solid ash are FSC chain of custody certified. Look for the tree tick logo on our product detail pages or click below. FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) is an international, non-governmental organisation dedicated to promoting responsible management of the world’s forests. They certify timber and timber products and are supported by NGOs including WWF, Greenpeace and the Woodland Trust. As far as we are concerned the FSC is the ‘gold standard’ in forest certification. Most of our solid wood bedroom ranges are made of FSC certified timber – please look for the ‘tree tick’ logo on our product pages.

  • Reclaimed Walnut  Our recycled walnut is reclaimed from old buildings where it was mainly used as structural joists. These rough hewn logs are cut, dried and sanded and recycled into our Caspian and Pacific pieces.
